Sweet Charity

Hello Enthusiasts –

I’m going to do something I rarely do:  let you know about a couple of “good cause” charity events happening in the cocktail world.  What’s great about charity events amongst my cocktailian friends is that they always manage to make them FUN.  How often do you feel good about yourself (you know, “good” in the appropriate way) after drinking?  Not to put too fine a point on it, but keep in mind that most of these folks don’t have employer provided health care (insert political opinion here).  And the second event, while also for a good cause, just looks like a blast.

So, details are below.  You should try to come out – they’ll both be tons of weekend fun.  Bring your friends.

  • Sunday, November 13 – 1:00pm – 5:00pm – Tequila Against Cancer Charity Event @ Next Door Lounge

Christine England is holding a tequila tasting/taco-off at Next Door Lounge in support of Enrico Caruso (of 4 Copas / Infinium fame) who was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer.  On this website (http://www.tequilaagainstcancer.myevent.com) you can purchase tickets for the event, donate online directly, or purchase silent auction items.  Some of the items being auctioned include hotel stays, bowling/punch at Spare Room, and vintage tequilas.  Come out and support a good cause and have a fun at the same time!

  • Sunday, November 13 – 3:00pm – 7:00pm – Speed-Rack Charity Competition @ The Roosevelt Hotel

Ivy Mix and Lynnette Marrero of LUPEC NYC are launching a charity event to raise money for breast cancer research.  Check out the teaser video at http://www.speed-rack.com.  It looks like a ton of fun.  The summary is that 16 women competitors make 5 drinks as fast as they can.  The 8 fastest times move on to the filmed finals.  The judges will be calling the drinks each round of one-on-one elimination, with the best time moving forward.  When only one woman is left standing, she’ll be Miss Speed Rack LA and will get $500 for a trip to NYC for the finals in May.  All the videos will be posted online and there will be fan-favorite nominated wild cards who get sent to the finals.  If you’d like to participate, email lynnette@speed-rack.com or ivy@speed-rack.com.  You can buy tickets for the event here: http://speedrackla.eventbrite.com
